Friday Giveaway // Xanthe Berkeley's Time Capsule course

One of our favorite photographers in the whole wide world is Xanthe Berkeley. She has this profound way of capturing the splendor in every day life and we love her for it. Even more amazing, she creates "time capsules" which combine photos and videos to memorialize the stories of your life.

One such example: Xanthe's morning routine.

11.11.11 : part one : our morning routine from xanthe berkeley on Vimeo.

Beginning in April, she will teach an online course dedicated to the creation of "time capsules." Epiphanie is giving away a spot in this class to one very lucky person. To enter, comment below and tell us the first type of time capsule you would create. Would it be about a normal evening in your household or maybe how you spent the last holiday with family and friends?

Entries must be posted by Thursday, March 22 at 11:59PM CST. The winner will be chosen at random and announced on Friday, March 23.  Good luck!

My first time capsule would capture my father. He is a cantankerous farmer who has worked and laughed hard his whole life. In August he turned 65 and in October he was diagnosed with leukemia. Needless to say he is a character that has taken this head on. The man who could have lifted a car off of you now, sometimes needs someone to help steady him while he is in his shop spray painting, welding on equipment, or one of the other million crazy things he is still doing including crabbing... I feel strongly that he will be in the 20 percent that is cured - just because he won't stop. I would love to capture what I see for him, my mom, and my kids.

This would be such a great process to learn, I would love to learn so I could make a time capsule of my daughters pregnancy through the course of her stomach growth, dr's appts and ultrasounds and the birth of my grandbaby come the end of Sept.

The chard starts and lemon tree, kids building forts, dog going bezerk after the deer, homework, dinner makings at the end of the day. Thank you for the inspiration.

That was so nice, beautiful.. I would like to do this because I live on my own and think I have nothing to show. So I would probably go for a morning coffee and a walk in the park.
Always wanted to do this though.

I think my first time capsule would capture our Monday night date night routine. We don't go out, but we usually cook together and enjoy our favorite series. Its a great way to start our week.

March 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLeanNicole

What an amazing opportunity! I would probably do a day in the life project and maybe do it from my dog's perspective.

March 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDebbie

I have two passion in my life. One is photography and the other is being an occupational therapist. I work in the school system with children with disabilities. I think I would love to present a time capsule to one of my families that I work with. To be able to give them something that is special to them and is about their child who struggles with everyday life. This would be something that would stretch me in directions that I have not been. This would challenge me in good way, Thank you Epiphanie for sharing Xanthe's video.

I would make my first time capsule of a regular evening at home with my husband and dog. I'd like for our lives as they are now to be recorded to show my future kids one day, as I'm often curious about what the everyday lives of my parents and grandparents were really like when they were younger and before children.

March 17, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterErica Laker

thank you for this generous and exquisite offer. my first time capsule would include the ordinary magic of our daily lives...those simple, sacred moments that i need to absolutely slow down to savor.

March 18, 2012 | Unregistered Commentermelissa

OMG, I have a million ideas already but would really love to take the course before my upcoming trip to Paris. That way, I could come back with a time capsule of my trip.

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDeanie

I would do a creativity capsule & place crafty & cooking tools that we all use right now. Might be kinda funny to then come back to it & see "different" shapes and colors :) Thanks for this & what a great idea!

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMeg K

Wow, what a fantastic idea. I would try to capture a regular day in our family's life. We usually remember to document the big days - holidays, birthdays, etc., but the routine day-to-day is not so well documented.

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLisa

Each year during the week of Thanksgiving, my family is joined together at a condo in Orange Beach, Alabama. My parents, my brother and myself, along with our spouses and children spend a week together in one house.
The activities include fashion shows that Nan-E (grandma) puts on with the grandkids (ages 2-10), there are moats, sand castles, loads of cooking, sports, one day of photo shoots and craft time with the kids. It is a true blessing. This year will be our 12th year and there is nothing more that I would love to do for my Mom than to capture this amazing family time/memory for her in a time capsule!

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCharisse

First breath, first cry, first hug, first kiss...the list goes on. Capturing the first moments of life would be amazing. For me, it would be a time capsule of my brother's first born. Becoming a parent is a miracle in itself and to be able to give my brother the opportunity to relive that moment with his wife and new daughter year's from now...decades from now...would be cherished within their family forever — timeless.

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmber

I'd capture the day that we find out the sex of our baby.

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterOC

Wow......What a great way to capture life! My first time capsule would be created to give my daughter (and then my son a few years later) upon her high school graduation and would highlight her life up until that point. I can also see creating time capsules for all kinds of events from trips to holidays....birthdays to everyday living.

Thanks so much for sharing this! :)

Wonderful idea...I would do a time capsule of the sailing adventure we are embarking on...

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSherry

I would love to do a duo time capsule. After about 15 years of divorce my aunt and Uncle are getting re-married to each other. I think it would be fun to one when they were together in the 70 and 80's, and another one of the wedding in June

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCheyenne S

I would love the opportunity to join this class! I would probably create something documenting a normal day with my hubs and 3 year old daughter, one that involves a lot of her spontaneous singing and dancing and reading books to her stuffed animals. Great giveaway!

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTracy

Such a cool way to capture and present memories of the everyday and the extraordinary! My first one would be of my husband's band of the process of show day. From rehearsal to travel to set-up to sound check to performance to tear down to late night dinner to home. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterStacy K.

If I could make a tie capsule, I would put information for my adopted son to have when he is grown. Baby pictures, pictures of his adoption. Pictures of his biological family in Mexico and their homes. I would also put in all the information as to why he was taken into foster care and why he became available for adoption. I would also put in his first baby blanket my husband stopped on the way home from work to buy for him the day they bought him to our house. He arrived from DFACS in a diaper and nothing else. They placed him in my arms and it was love at first sight. I would also put in the recipes of his favorite foods so he will never be without my home cooked love after I am gone. Also a letter about how we looked all over the world for a child to adopt and we chose him because he was meant for us and we were meant for him. He is my heart.

March 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterPaula Brown

Amazing!! I absolutely love this. I think a random day in the life would be great. It's so ordinary and yet so extraordinary and so easy to sometimes forget. Thanks for hosting this!

I just updated my DSLR to get one with video capability after finding a short cell phone clip of my now 5 year old when he was 2.5 and realizing just how much I have already forgotten about the way he used to move and speak. There is just something about the combination of video and still photos that does a better job of telling a story than either one can on it's own. I'd love to have to opportunity to take this course!

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCarrie

Lovely giveaway- I would do a time capsule about school days or maybe one about my husband--

Thanks!!!

I would love to start off doing a day with my two boys! I love our Sundays, breakfast together, church, playing outside, etc.. so simple but something I look forward to all week!

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMisty Robichaux

My first time capsule would be of my children interacting with eachother, candidly of course, and then of them all asleep...the differences of the chaos and peace. I would LOVE to take her course, I need to learn this!

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCatherine Lorraine

This is such a fun idea! I would create a time capsule of our recent spring break trip to the beach. My children are learning to swim and I have some good footage of them underwater as well as several pictures. This would be the perfect use for them :)

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAshley Pendleton

Oh how fabulous. I love this idea, and Xanthe's work. I would definitely make a time capsule of life with my husband - newlyweds, living in a new apartment, in a new state. I want to be able to look back on this time and remember how great we have it, even when we don't always realize it.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJenn McG

Im getting married in June to my best friend! I would love to make a time capsule of this once in a lifetime day.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSayoko Lynn

How exciting! I would probably do a time capsule of my creative process (letterpress printing, photography, and graphic design).

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMihaela Hinayon

I would love to do a time capsule of time spent with my grand babies. I have three beautiful grand babies, who are growing so quickly. Eleanor, 7 months, Layla, 9 months, and William is 20 months. They are at such wonderful ages and their personalities are just blooming. I would be wonderful to capture this time in our lives.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKathie

I would make one that contained photos of my children, recordings of their voices and them talking about what our family means to them and what we do on a normal day. Their perspective at this point in time.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKelly Jones

This sounds like an amazing class to take a part in!
If I created a time capsule, I would do it of a normal
day at school, with friends and different scenes and
sights that are every day things that soon I'll forget
as I move on in life. :)

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAbigail Berg

A photographer friend and I have set up a site to keep a record of our mutual daily shots. I'd love to do a time capsule of a day in our lives to kick it off.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLaurie

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAysha Gerald

i would make a time capsule about The Marking Girls...I have three sisters and in 2010 we lost our beloved Julie. I would love to create something for her yet to be born grandchildren to know who she was and what made her Julie..A sisters bond is something that moves into the next generation.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLaura Daivs

Oh my gosh. This video is amazing. My heart. I want to make so many of these. What would I start with? My husband is a pilot and I think I would like to make a Time Capsule representing the time we spend together until the time he leaves. And then I would love to make one of a day in the life while he is gone. So... I don't think I would be able to stop. I would love to take this class. Thank you for the great opportunity. Love it!!

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterGina Newberry

I would LOVE to do this of one of my husband's homecomings, since he is in the navy and gone a lot it would be great to capture that most special time we get when he first gets off the boat.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKelley Dykes

I would love a time-capsule of an adventure with my favorite explorer - my 5 year old. big or small, extraordinary or everyday, its all an adventure through his eyes. I love my time with him.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

I think I would do a holiday one, maybe even put a few pervious years or something.. Love this idea.

March 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterShaunah Maybeline

If I could do a time capsule Id have to do a series. When my husband deploys I'd want to do he departures and then a few of the good and bad days and the his homecoming. I would want to record the amazing moments whe my 3 kids see there daddy again after being away for 7 months.

Thanks for this amazing idea. Even if I am not the winner this just help as a reminder that life is short...freeze it.
