I'm so sorry to see that your randomly selected, equal opportunity monthly giveaway has been turned into a popularity contest. Voting doesn't necessarily determine the best or most deserving submission, it just shows who is most popular and can rally the most friends to vote. If the winning photo really is the best one, then that person probably has many years of experience over the other submitters, and likely has a great camera bag, or can afford one, unlike many of us beginners. Perhaps they have a well-established photography business and can get their facebook fans to vote for them. See my point? I really enjoyed entering the contest in previous months, because it was randomly selected and I had just as much chance as anyone else to win the giveaway. I hate begging, pestering, and annoying my friends to vote in a silly contest on the off chance I might win, because I hate being on the receiving end of it, too. I know it's your contest and it is very generous to do these giveaways, but I thought I would express my thoughts and feelings on the subject to give some food for thought. I won't even be bothering to enter, anymore.

Hi Stacious, thanks for letting us know your thoughts. Voting is something new we're trying this month, so we'll see how it goes. Please be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter because we'll be announcing several other chances to win an Epiphanie bag where the winner is chosen at random. Thanks!

Wow. I have to agree with Stacious on this one. :( Very disappointing.

June 2, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNicole

The public voting will be a popularity contest for sure. I don't have that kind of time in my schedule to rally week after week to get votes. BUT, I'll cross my fingers all the same and thank Epiphanie for even a chance to win a bag. I've already purchased a bag of my own and love it and now I'm hoping to eventually win one so I can use it in my photo classes to expose new photographers to the BEAUTIFUL, FUNCTIONAL, AMAZING Epiphanie Bag! Or maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones chosen to help Epiphanie in their quest to spread the word and they'll donate a bag (Wink Wink). Anyway.... No sniveling here just a HUGE thank you for the chance once again this month to try and win a beautiful bag!

I just uploaded my photo, not realizing this was a popularity contest either. How disappointing, as I will not be asking anyone to vote for me on a daily/weekly basis. I will leave my photo entered in this contest, but will also hope for a randomly selected winner in the future. Thanks for the opportunity! Lovely camera bags, especially The Clover.

June 4, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterChristabel

I too agree with the above, but still enjoy the themes each month.

June 6, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterTenaya Dale

How do you get people to vote? Also, pinterest is blocking the link due to people saying it is spam.

June 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJSorensne

I too, am very disappointed that this month's contest has turned into a popularity contest. Much more fun to actually have a chance to win through a random drawing. Spamming my general public friends would probably not drive more traffic to Epiphanie... the friends I have who would appreciate the bags already know about it.

June 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

I soooooo agree with Stacious, very sad about the change. I have a great idea for my entry too. :( I will probably still enter for the fun of it, but won't push my friends to vote. Tacky!

June 7, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterChristy Peterson

I don't have as much people rooting for me too, so I guess I am far from winning. :'(

June 11, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterManjila Naksrmi

Hi everyone! You have another chance to win an Epiphanie bag right now at My Four Hens! Here's the link - http://bit.ly/LMQqty. Good luck!

June 15, 2012 | Registered Commenter[Epiphanie]

All are such great entires! May the best one win :)

June 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterBlanca Dockery

It's showing a red X by my submission #108. But I click the link and it is linked properly to Pinterest page. Any suggestions?

June 15, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

Need to remove photo #119. The Link is not correct. That is why I placed photo #120.
Thanks

I have to agree with Stacious & the other comments expressing unhappiness at the change of winning to vote-based. I don't have a huge client base, or friend list, and would not want to spam them for votes even if I did. I'm also not a hugely established photographer who turns out the most brilliant images that people I don't know would vote for... I don't have students who I could get to vote for me, and I definitely don't already have an Epiphanie bag. I have loved these bags since I first saw them, but can't afford one, which is why I have been so excited about the random drawings. I do hope you return to that setup.

June 18, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSylverLight

I am not thrilled regarding the chosen method of selecting the winner, but I find it more pleasing than a random drawing. Picking a winner at random takes the competition out of it. It is a contest afterall.

I'd like to see the best photo win. Does that create an advantage for those who have been involved in photography longer or have better equipment? Perhaps. But those with more experience have surely worked hard to get where they are.

I think perhaps, having multiple prizes to be awarded in categories based on the experience of the photographer (beginner, intermediate, pro, or number years experience) would solve the problem.

June 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmber

I agree, this should not be a popularity contest. I avoid those kinds of contests like the plague as I don't have the time to keep bugging my friends to vote for me like some people I'm sure will. I hope you change it back to a random contest next month.

June 19, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterColleen

I'm glad Stacious first commented about the way this contest winner is chosen. I agree with her and was pretty disheartened after I submitted my photo to find out that it was vote based. I have very few social network friends as I try to keep my circle purely to those I'm I know in person and I don't use it to spam them. I hope you choose to go back to the original method of contests, it's so much more thrilling that way.

I may not be a fan of the voting, as I do feel that some that vote only do so because they know the submission and not because it is the best submission. With that said, how do you determine the best? Photography is a form of art, and what is beautiful and deserving in my eyes may not be in someone else's . While I may not petition my fans to vote for me, I am truly appreciative of Epiphanie for doing a monthly giveaway, I only recently found the Epiphanie bags and while I can't afford one right now since I am saving for another camera, which is my bread and butter to my business, I will be purchasing one before the year is out. So Thank You Epiphanie for having a monthly contest and allowing anyone the chance to enter and win.

Maybe in the future you guys can pick the top 10 and then have people vote? Just a thought.

My boyfriend tried to vote for me and he just kept getting redirected back to the page with it saying "you can cast one more vote".

Just wondering if votes are counting/if there's a secret to it we're missing.

June 20, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterDani

My thoughts seem to be like the rest. It isn't about how good your photo is, but how many people you can get to vote for you.

I really enjoyed entering the contest, because I really love your bags.

June 21, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCindi

I totally agree this is more by popular vote than by creativity and ability. There are quite a few photos that are awesome captures that have no votes that should have been at least recognized for their talent.

June 24, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterJudy Card

Of all months to try this idea..why this month? Besides the handbag the prize from My Four Hens Photography is amazing. I was so hopeful for this month but not now. I am very selective about my friends on certain sites so my votes are low compared to others. I still hope that the winner is chosen by random like it has been in months before and this was a trial to see what people thought about it and how it worked. My photo isn't the best by far but at least if it is picked at random by a website or drawing it seems a little more fair that way. At least we all have an equal chance.

June 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSara

Especially difficult when those who have been in the game for a while have more fans to get to vote for them and multiple platforms for 'campaigning' whereas those just starting out can only ask family and friends. Pretty discouraging for the newbies like me :(

Thank you as always for an opportunity to win one of the bags! Maybe if I become as popular as the professionals on here I'll just buy one and give the new guys a chance to win...

June 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLauren M

I'm literally going to cry if I lose! I thought my pic was great with July 4th right around the corner. I'm a new photographer and I really could use these items! :**( I don't know who else to beg for votes!

June 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKim Vaccariello

I have been watching the votes so closely all week and the person who is now "winning" magically got like 100 votes in the matter of hours today...everytime I refresh the page they have another vote....something doesnt seem right to me. Annoyed

June 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKim

Kim, it simply means that the winner has the widest circle from which to ask for votes. The winning vote is not based on merit, but on popularity. Hopefully Epiphanie! will realize that this type of contest, albeit free publicity, isn't the best way to serve their customers. Fewer people will enter if they can not garner 300+ votes. I would hope that photographers who win via this method will not be able to re-enter future contests decided in this manner.

June 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterAmy

agree with Kim! I've been closely watching (obviously) and there is at least one contestant that shot up remarkably far in the rankings today... silly me thinking I'd have a chance, I have no one left to ask :(

June 29, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterLauren McGrath

Wow these people are cheating. Simple as that.

June 30, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMrs. Lady

Hi everyone, we use inlinkz.com to facilitate this photo contest and manage voting. Only 1 vote is allowed per unique IP address and from what we can tell, we have not had issues with any abuse of this rule. Today is the last day of the contest so it does seem likely that people would be sharing their photo/link in an attempt to gain more votes.

Please remember that we host several giveaways each week giving you many chances to win a bag for free. Our photo contests are not only an opportunity to win prizes, but a chance for your photography to be seen by our entire audience. We appreciate your entries and participation, and will continue to host a variety of contests with various parameters for winning.

If you have questions or comments, please feel free to email us at media@epiphaniebags.com. Thank you!
